As you are aware - this translation refers back to the hand that is extended towards her in the previous unit, and is therefore the grammatically correct translation, because it is only the hand that is mentioned, not him as a whole.
However, I think one could use poetic licence here and also say: She doesn't push him away. (which actually has more impact than 'it')

Elle ne le repousse pas = elle ne repousse pas Nicolas
Elle ne LA repousse pas = elle ne repousse pas la main (de Nicolas).
