Actually, the Latin 'Citius, altius, fortius' translates as 'faster, deeper, stronger'. But in the recent Olympic history it has become faster, higher, stronger - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_symbols#Motto_and_creed

When I read 'higher' here, I immediately think of someone jumping 'higher', but not all sports require 'height', that's why I wonder if 'greater' would be a more appropriate translation.

'higher' doesn't quite make sense to me - does it mean 'greater' ?
