Et imaginatosi che 'l lasciarsi da lui prendere lo potesse per aventura nello primiero suo stato restituire, in uno luogo s'acconciò, dove dalla rete potesse esser coperto; et in cotal guisa dall'ucellatore in compagnia di molti altri uccelli, et papagalli volle esser preso; et insieme con gl'altri in una gran gabbia posto, essendo da nuovo l'ucellatore à tendere le reti tornato, egli, che di ragione, et intelletto dotato era, si fece, che tratto col becco uno legnetto, che 'l portino della gabbia chiuso tenea, et apertolo, tutti gl'altri ucelli se ne fuggirono, et egli nella gabbia solo si rimase.

And he imagined that if he allowed himself to be captured, he could return to his former state. He placed himself in a suitable place and was thereby captured in the net together with many other birds and parrots and put in a large cage. And when the bird-catcher stretched out his net again, because he was endowed with reason and intelligence, he grabbed the peg which kept the cage closed with his beak and opened it. All the other birds flew away and he stayed in the cage by himself.
