My understanding of 'Period' is that it is the American term for 'full stop' to signify the end of a sentence in English, but I think 'point barre' would be better translated here as 'The End', which is the traditional ending to a story or play. What do you say, Mark?

End of story. (In the sense 'there's nothing more to be said'.)
Point barre has the meaning fin de la discussion, on cesse d'en discuter, c'est tout,il n'y a rien à ajouter...
