May I suggest 'he'd left' - remember it is spoken language, and 'he had' is rather stiff and formal, and hardly anyone would 'say' that.

Marina, technically your translation is correct, but it is very awkward and easily misunderstood. It would be more natural to say: I wondered if he'd left because of me.
Strictly speaking your translation indicates that the father didn't leave, because of/for the sake of the child, which is not the case, because he did leave.
