your version is ok also but melancholy is also a adjective, almost similar to melancholic. More used in litterature than everyday speech.
by Boot2 1 month agoAs an adjective, you'd say: '...despite the tearfully melancholic landscape....' I'd stick with 'melancholy' as a noun.
