Please change "tater-like" to "gypsy-like". These days any American who reads "tater" will think "tater tots". I suppose "tater" might have been a synonym in English for gypsy at one time. I don't know. In German Täter makes me think of a criminal, a doer of bad deeds. In McCay's Modern Norwegian dictionary I found taterjente (gypsy girl) and taterkvinne (gypsy woman).
