marina, you were correct. Charles leaving for America was the result of HIM learning about his wife's infidelity. Both translations are correct but I'd like 'this' better than 'it'.

Sorry Mark . Do you want me to :
1) replace "he" by "she" ( When Charles learnt that he decided to go to America)
2 suppress "it" ? We need something for "l'' ( en apprenant cela). Maybe you'd prefer "this".
