Mark and France - just a tiny point: In English it would be more usual and natural to say: And did you notice anything unusual? / or / And you didn't notice anything unusual? / or / And you noticed nothing unusual?

Mark, "absences" est une traduction exacte, mais ici l'inspecteur qualifie ces absences d'abandon de poste, presque comme si c'était une faute grave... desertion of one's post ??
