Yes "a good instant of calm" gives the same length in a simpler way;
a some = 2 déterminants- pas possible; :-)

If I understand the Spanish sentence correctly, "not a short... " has a different meaning. "a not short..." seems closer but sounds really strange.
We may have to add something;
an instant, rather prolonged, of calm. / a moment, not really brief, of calm. ??
