All of those meanings are possible, but let's use the ones that fit the situation. Based on the description, which is ironic, Mr. Roldán was a charlatan (not discreet), and I am not quite sure if his wife is “wise” or “circumspect”. I think your choice of “discreet” is good; it is safer.
