For your clarification:
almuerzo = lunch/midday or early afternoon meal.
comida= it can be at any time, but also applies to dinner(cena).
cena=dinner/last meal of the day, at evening.

The author is Spanish not Sout-American but the translation sounds strange "almuerzo" would also have been "food". In a dictionary I find a LAM meaning: "comida": (=cena) dinner, evening meal. Could it have hat meaning here ?
