As soon as the glasses were gone, Nathanael became completely calm, and as he thought of Clara, he realized that the terrifying apparition had come only from within him, and that Coppola was a thoroughly honest mechanic and optician, but by no means Coppelii’s cursed doppelgänger and revenant.
