Well, that's tricky, I don't think 'lamprey' works here, Mark, because it is a play on the word 'augen'. "Hühneraugen" / das Neunauge. According to my research, soft corns are sometimes called “partridge eyes” because they are round in shape with a red border (inflamed area) and a black dot in the centre.
How about: Nefarious scoffers even called him "The Nine-eyed", because there was a rumour that apart from his two normal eyes, he had seven partridge eyes (corns).
